Hi there, My Name is Alex Buga, I'm from Bucharest Romania, and I am a design-addict - in the good way. I work as a Creative Director at MB Dragan - (True) Interactive Agency.

I have a friend that is coming from U.S. to Romania this weekend and I asked him to buy me an 8 gigs iPod touch. Just as I expected, they only have the 16 gigs model in the 15th Ave. store.
Now I’m wondering… should I buy the 16 model ... should I buy the iPhone ? It really sucks because Romania is not on the list for “iPhone countries”… hell.. we don’t even have an iTunes store and I’m not so sure about unlocking it.
Update: Just heard some rumors… I guess i’l go with the 16 gigs model if he doesn’t manage to find the 8 one :D

don’t worry about unlocking the iphone. a friend of mine did it couple of weeks ago and it works fine in orange network http://www.alexbuga.com/site/images/smileys/grin.gif
don’t really like though. I was a little bit disappointed after playing with it - my expectation were to high

I’m not worying about the unlocking but the software updates… it seems the unlocking is messing around with the phone’s hardware by changing the IMEI & stuff…
That I won’t allow to happen with a device that I pay a lot of money for.

Until the iPhone Dev Team breaks the 1.1.1 firmware, you’re either stuck on 1.0.x or you can’t unlock yet .
What troubles me is if a Orange iPhone bought in France would work in romanian Orange. Or, if I bought one in the US (in $ not euro) would I be able to use it in a certified Orange network.
The touch is nice, but the missing bluetooth is the main thing that stops me form buying it today http://www.alexbuga.com/site/images/smileys/smile.gif Also, there’s no speaker so you can’t really show movies to friends in a easy way http://www.alexbuga.com/site/images/smileys/smile.gif And some people like me would miss the Google Maps and other apps they didn’t scramble in.

I got the hots for the new iPod touch too, but I think I’ll wait a bit longer to see what happens in Romania. I’m still hoping the Apple guys will let us in the iTunes loop sometime soon. Still hoping… http://www.alexbuga.com/site/images/smileys/wink.gif

@ Stef: That was the main reason why I was undecided. The unlocking & stuff.
Anyway… probably I will keep the touch for at most two years. I’m pretty sure they will make something better until then. Who knows ? Maybe a 3G iPhone ?
You know what sucks ? Besides “Visual Voicemail” there’s no other feature that is “network related” so I don’t understand why they went with AT&T;just for that when they could sell it unlocked.
Probably they want a “good” carrier for the next iPhone. Who knows what network-related features will be introduced then.
PS: Visual Voicemail is not my thing. I use SMS :D
